![]() New applications: Extending AI capabilities could open up entirely new areas of application, such as AI-driven healthcare diagnostics, advanced robotics for manufacturing, or real-time decision-making systems for emergency response.ĥ. Greater adaptability: By leveraging a broader range of tools and data sources, AI systems could become more adaptable to different environments, tasks, and user needs, making them even more useful in various applications.Ĥ. Enhanced communication: With access to multiple modalities, AI systems could communicate more effectively with humans and other AI systems, using text, images, audio, or other means as appropriate for the situation.ģ. Richer understanding: AI systems would be able to learn from a wider variety of data sources, leading to a more comprehensive understanding of the world and context, which may enable new forms of reasoning and problem-solving.Ģ. These expanded capabilities would likely result in:ġ. If AI systems like GPT-4 are extended to incorporate other tools and modalities, such as audio processing, tactile sensors, robotics, or even integration with IoT devices, we can expect even more powerful and versatile AI systems. However, Sutskever acknowledges that there is still room for improvement in areas like reliability and following user intent to make AI systems more useful and trustworthy.īen: If you then extend the capability of the system to use other tools, extrapolate the likely outcome He also points out that adding multimodal capabilities, such as vision, can further enhance the AI's understanding and reasoning. These properties arise from the AI's ability to predict the next word in text more accurately, leading to a deeper understanding of context and information. Ilya Sutskever emphasizes that as AI systems like GPT-4 become more advanced, they develop emergent properties, such as a greater understanding of the world and improved reasoning capabilities. Sutskever believes AI progress will continue, focusing on enhancing reliability and the ability to follow user intent, leading to increased trust and a broader range of applications for the technology.īen: What is Ilya saying about the emergent properties of these systems? GPT-4, developed by OpenAI, demonstrates significant advancements in reliability and understanding, with improved performance in tasks like math problems, proofs, and meme explanations.ģ. Ilya Sutskever highlights the importance of learning and scale in AI progress, enabled by deep learning and neural networks.Ģ. This progress will increase trust in the technology and expand its range of applications.īen: Pick out the most important points, both factual and suppositionġ. ![]() Sutskever believes that progress in AI will continue, with a focus on improving reliability and the ability to follow user intent. With GPT-4, OpenAI has made significant advancements in reliability and understanding, allowing the AI system to work through math problems, proofs, and even explain jokes in memes. ![]() Thanks to neural networks, computers can now learn from data, predict the next word in a text, and even understand images. He emphasized the importance of learning and scale as key factors in AI progress. Renowned AI researcher Ilya Sutskever discussed the evolution and potential of deep learning and neural networks in a recent interview. I guess that's where multi-modality will come in at some point soon:īen: Please summarize the following transcript (I don't include the transcript here, I obviously pasted the text in to the chat window though.) ![]() Also, the presentation from Denis at Deepmind was revealing, and in particular the way in which he threw a cautionary word about AGI over the entire event.Ī somewhat expected aspect of my interaction with GPT-4 this afternoon is that the full weight of Ilya's commentary was not picked up by #gpt4 when I presented it with the audio transcript. Definitely check that out, if you get the chance. In fact, one could almost feel him tremor with the weight of what he was trying to say. I found Ilya fascinating, especially the way in which he was clearly alluding to capabilities of GPT-4 that represent much much more than just, a "stochastic parrot". In today's article, I re-visit Ilya's discussion with Jensen at Nvidia GTC this week by asking GPT-4 some questions about it and then I move on to some adjacent topics. If you want to jump to that section of this post, be my guest - it's right at the end! Well that's if you like that kind of thing.
